Gogglebox viewers were left sorely disappointed when one of the most talked-about TV moments of the week was only briefly featured on the latest episode of the reality series.
On Monday evening, the latest instalment of Nigella Lawson’s Cook, Eat, Repeat was aired on BBC Two.
During the 30-minute programme, Nigella, 60, was filmed saying the word ‘microwave’ in a notably unique way, calling it a ‘meeecro-wa-vay’.
Those watching the show were both amused and perplexed by the food writer’s pronunciation of the kitchen appliance, with the moment quickly becoming nothing short of iconic.
But all those who may have expected the scene to be discussed at length during Gogglebox were unfortunately mistaken.
While a segment of the new episode of Cook, Eat, Repeat was shown, the moment Nigella revealed her distinctive way of saying microwave was only briefly included during the introduction.
What’s more, Gogglebox stars Abbie and Georgia were the only ones shown reacting to it.
Several Gogglebox viewers took to Twitter to share their frustration.
‘Watching Gogglebox on +1 and cannot believe they didn’t show Nigella saying microwave! Been waiting for this all week!!’ one person said.
‘Was looking forward all week to @C4Gogglebox reactions to @Nigella_Lawson saying “meecrowavey” for it to be only shown in the introduction!! Disappointed!!’ another remarked.
While the clip of Nigella saying microwave was featured in the introduction, the scene that was focused on during last night’s episode of Gogglebox showed the TV cook whipping up some pasta in the kitchen with Nduja sauce.
When talking to her audience about how to remember the correct way to say ‘Nduja’, which is a spicy pork from Italy, Nigella said: ‘You can remember its correct pronunciation if you think of saying, “N-do ya want to eat now.”’
Following the hysteria Nigella’s pronunciation of microwave caused on Monday night, she later clarified whether that’s actually how she refers to it.
‘Well, I do say it like that, but not because I think that’s how it’s actually pronounced,’ she tweeted.
Still, that’s how we’re all going to be referring to it from now on!
Gogglebox next airs on Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
